Come to me, all you who are struggling hard and carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Put on my yoke, and learn from me. I’m gentle and humble. And you will find rest for yourselves. My yoke is easy to bear, and my burden is light.
Matthew 10:28-30 CEB
The most fun I’ve ever had was working as a professional stage actor in Chicago.
Also, the LEAST fun I’ve ever had was working as a professional stage actor in Chicago.
The director of the show makes all the difference. Some like to yell and curse and take out their frustrations on anyone and everyone. Others like to encourage and inspire… I’m guessing you know which ones facilitated fun production environments and which ones didn’t.
Ultimately there are two types of leaders, those who cause stress and those who alleviate stress. Jesus is the best of the latter. He doesn’t ask that we earn his love with perfect performances. Instead, he inspires the best our souls can muster and fills in the gaps caused by our weaknesses with his own perfect strength. If all the world is a stage, I want to be a player in the grand drama that Jesus is directing.
Lord God, thank you for your Son, whom we can trust with our best efforts, in whom we can find true rest. Amen.
