“…even though I am absent physically, I’m with you in spirit. I’m happy to see the discipline and stability of your faith in Christ.”
Colossians 2:5 CEB
I was a teenager when I first fell in love… with Star Wars. There was a whole lot to love about the original trilogy—cool spaceships, laser swords and grumpy wookies… but I was most intrigued by the mystical Jedi power known as the force.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could talk to our loved ones using telepathy or be visited by the ghosts of our late mentors and friends?
Of course, the force isn’t real—but the Holy Spirit is! Those of us who abide in the True Vine, Jesus Christ, are spiritually bonded, connected in ways that bridge socioeconomic and cultural divides, even geographical divides. Which is why the Apostle Paul was able to encourage the church in Colossae by saying, “even though I am absent physically, I’m with you in spirit.”
Lord God, when we find ourselves missing our brothers and sisters in Christ, remind us that they are not far off, because you hold us close together in the love and power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. We plan to post a weekly devotional and a monthly topical reflection AND we want to be as interactive as possible. Please share your thoughts and questions—we’d be thrilled to hear from you!
