When he had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, saying, “Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say this, ‘The Lord needs it.’”
Luke 19:29-31 NRSV
Rent, groceries, bills—my money is pretty tied up.
Work, school, driving the kids around… maintaining the car so I can keep working, going to school and driving the kids around—my time is pretty tied up too.
When it comes to relationships, resources and responsibilities, my life is as tied up as a donkey on a leash. But I’m not complaining. I like my leash. I chose my leash. All those things that keep me tied up make me happy (well, except for the maintaining the car part).
Hopefully though, I’ll be generous with my money if ever the Lord needs it.
Hopefully I’ll be quick to offer up my time whenever the Lord needs it.
Hopefully I’ll be grateful to surrender my life, because nothing could make life more worth living than discovering the Lord needs it.
Lord God, help us let go of the lives we control so we can take hold of the abundant life you offer. Amen.
