The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."
Genesis 2:18 NIV
Based on societal norms, identity comes from what people do with their time. One’s worth is based on one’s occupation and, perhaps, one’s hobbies.
But as Pastor Eisner points out, God looked upon one individual human, Adam, and decided he was incomplete without a companion. Based on the lessons found in scripture, our identity is less about how we spend our time and more about who we spend our time with.
We were made for the purpose of enjoying loving connections with God and with one another. No amount of money earned or degrees acquired or accolades collected will ever matter more than our family, friends and neighbors.
Oh Lord, this Lenten Season, help us discover our self-worth as we enjoy meaningful fellowship with you and with others. Amen.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. We plan to post a weekly devotional and a monthly topical reflection AND we want to be as interactive as possible. Please share your thoughts and questions—we’d be thrilled to hear from you!
